Farmer Josh will cover all of the basics including when and how to turn your compost pile. Bring your questions and curiosity. For example, what is leachate? What is the quickest way to get that compost nutrition into your garden? What happens if your compost isn’t finished before you add it? Hands on examples and handouts will be provided.

Mulching for Beginners

Confused about when and where to mulch? This class is for you! Can mulch take away from soil nutrition? Can mulch actually kill or deter certain plants? Should you compost or mulch first? Do you need to do both? Farmer Josh will cover the basics, answer any questions and you get to take a bag of Julian Farm and Orchard mulch home with you!

Paint Your Own Terracotta Pot, Garden Brick, or Pet Rock
Come join this family friendly group paining event and paint art for your garden! We will provide one pot/brick/rock per guest and additional pots/sizes will be available to purchase on site. Bring back your uniquely decorated pot for a $5 discount on future potting classes. We will have a variety of acrylic paints, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, and paintbrushes available for use. Please arrive in attire suitable for both the farm and for painting.

Seed Starting for Sunflowers, Cocozelle Squash, Arugula, or Swiss Chard
Our trained farm staff will assist individuals in planting seeds in enriched soil that we will provide. We will explain the care needed as well as when and how to transplant if needed.
